Inside Out Egg Roll Bowl (Printable Version)

Ground meat and cabbage sautéed with savory seasonings for a quick, satisfying one-bowl dinner.

# What You'll Need:

→ Main Components

01 - 450 grams lean ground beef, pork, or turkey
02 - 1 teaspoon minced garlic (1–2 cloves)
03 - 400–450 grams coleslaw mix or 6 cups finely sliced cabbage
04 - 80 millilitres low sodium soy sauce or tamari
05 - 1 teaspoon hot sauce
06 - 1 teaspoon ground ginger
07 - 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
08 - Pinch ground cloves (optional)
09 - 1.5 tablespoons toasted sesame oil

→ Garnishes

10 - 3 green onions, sliced
11 - Sesame seeds for serving (optional)

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Preheat a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat.
02 - Add the ground meat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and cook until fully browned.
03 - Drain any excess grease and add the minced garlic, sautéing for 30 to 60 seconds until fragrant.
04 - Add the coleslaw mix or finely sliced cabbage and toss thoroughly with the cooked meat and garlic.
05 - Pour in the soy sauce and stir well to coat. Add the hot sauce, ground ginger, onion powder, and ground cloves if using. Stir until evenly combined.
06 - Cover with a lid and cook for 2 to 5 minutes, or until the cabbage mixture is softened. If lacking a lid, add 60–80 millilitres of water to prevent sticking.
07 - Once the cabbage is cooked to preference, remove the skillet from heat and drizzle in toasted sesame oil. Toss thoroughly to incorporate.
08 - Taste and adjust with salt, pepper, or additional seasoning if desired.
09 - Serve in bowls topped with sliced green onions and sesame seeds as desired.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Pre-shredded coleslaw mix offers convenience, but fresh finely sliced cabbage yields a crisp texture and fresher flavour.
02 - For ground chicken or turkey, add 1 tablespoon of oil before cooking to ensure proper browning.
